What We Don't Accept at United Scrap Metal Traders

We buy a wide range of scrap metal and work hard to make the drop off process as easy as possible. However there are some items we are not able to accept at our depot for safety, legal and environmental reasons. Please read through the list below before making the trip to save yourself an unnecessary journey.

If you are not sure whether something on your load falls into one of these categories, give us a call before you come in. We would rather answer your question over the phone than have you make a wasted trip.

Items We Cannot Accept

Hazardous Materials

We are not able to accept any materials that are classified as hazardous. This includes materials that pose a risk to the health and safety of our staff, other customers or the environment. If you are unsure whether your material is classified as hazardous, please check before you make the trip.

Asbestos

We do not accept any materials containing asbestos under any circumstances. Asbestos is a regulated hazardous material and must be handled and disposed of by a licensed asbestos removalist. If your scrap metal has asbestos attached or associated with it, the asbestos must be removed and disposed of by a licensed contractor before we can accept the remaining metal.

Non-Metal Items

We are a scrap metal recycler and only purchase metal materials. We are not able to accept general rubbish, household waste, timber, concrete, plastics or other non-metal items. If your load contains a mix of metal and non-metal materials, please remove the non-metal components before you arrive where possible.
Tyres
We do not accept tyres of any kind including car tyres, truck tyres, motorcycle tyres or industrial tyres. Tyres are not a metal product and cannot be processed at our facility.

Chemicals

We are not able to accept any chemicals at our depot regardless of type or quantity. If your scrap metal has chemical contamination or residue, please let us know before you make the trip so we can advise whether it is something we can accept.
Chemical Containers and Drums
We do not accept drums, containers or vessels that have previously held chemicals, even if they appear to be empty. Residual chemical contamination makes these materials unsafe for our team to handle and process at our facility.
Flammable Substances
We do not accept any flammable substances or materials contaminated with flammable substances. This includes fuel, oil, petrol, diesel and any containers or vessels that have held flammable liquids. The safety of our staff and customers is our highest priority and flammable materials present an unacceptable risk in our depot environment.
Explosives and Ammunition
We do not accept explosives, ammunition or any other material that poses an explosion risk under any circumstances. If you have materials of this nature that require disposal, please contact the relevant authorities for guidance on safe and legal disposal options.

Any Vessel Containing Liquids

We are not able to accept any vessel, drum, tank or container that contains liquid of any kind. All vessels must be completely empty and free of residue before we can consider accepting them. If you are unsure whether a vessel is suitable, please give us a call before you make the trip.
Sealed Cylinders
We do not accept sealed cylinders of any type including gas bottles, LPG cylinders, oxygen cylinders and other pressurised vessels. Sealed cylinders pose a serious safety risk and cannot be processed at our facility. If you have a gas bottle or cylinder you wish to recycle, it must have a hole drilled in it or the valve removed to confirm it is completely empty and depressurised before we can consider accepting it.
Mercury
We do not accept mercury or any materials containing mercury. Mercury is a highly toxic substance and is subject to strict regulations around handling and disposal. Materials containing mercury must be disposed of through an approved hazardous waste facility.
Radioactive Material
We do not accept radioactive materials of any kind under any circumstances. If you have radioactive materials requiring disposal, please contact the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency or the relevant Queensland

Not Sure If We Can Help?

If you have read through this list and are still not sure whether we can accept what you have, please give us a call before you make the trip. Our team is happy to answer your questions and give you an honest answer about whether your material is something we can take. We would much rather have that conversation upfront than have you arrive with something we cannot accept.

For everything else, we are here Monday to Saturday at 913 Lytton Road, Murarrie and would love to help you turn your scrap metal into cash.
