We Buy Household Scrap Metal in Brisbane

Clearing out the shed, doing a renovation or just tired of looking at a pile of old metal taking up space in the backyard? United Scrap Metal Traders buys White Goods and household scrap metal of all kinds at our Murarrie depot. No appointment needed, just turn up during business hours and we will take care of the rest.

What Household Scrap Metal Do We Accept?

We accept most types of household scrap metal including:

Hot water systems & water heaters
Old garden furniture & sheds
Lawnmowers & outdoor power equipment
Mixed metals from shed & garage cleanouts

There are some items we are not able to accept. If you are unsure whether your household scrap qualifies, give us a call before you make the trip and we will give you an honest answer.

First Time Visiting a Scrap Yard?

If you have never been to a scrap yard before, do not let that put you off. We see first timers every day and our team is used to walking people through the process from start to finish. There is nothing complicated about it and most customers are in and out in just a few minutes.

1. Drive In

Pull into our drive-through depot at 913 Lytton Road, Murarrie. We are easy to find, centrally located near the Gateway Bridge and accessible from all parts of Brisbane. We accommodate utes, trailers and small trucks.

2. Get Weighed

Depending on your load, your vehicle and scrap will be weighed on our drive-on weighbridge or our staff will weigh your items directly. Either way the process is fast and transparent so you know exactly what you are getting paid for.

3. Unload Your Scrap

Our friendly staff will give you a hand unloading. You do not need to do it alone and you do not need any special equipment. Just bring your scrap and we will take care of the rest.

4. Get Paid

We tailor payment to suit your needs. Whether you prefer cash or bank transfer, talk to our team when you arrive and we will sort out whatever works best for you. Payment is made on the spot once your scrap has been weighed and assessed.

What Is My Household Scrap Worth?

The value of household scrap depends on the types of metals you have, the quantity and current market conditions. Non-ferrous metals like copper, aluminium and brass are generally worth more per kilogram than ferrous metals like steel and iron, but we buy both and every load is assessed fairly on its merits.

If you are not sure what your scrap is worth, give us a call with a description of what you have and we will give you a rough idea before you make the trip. Or simply bring it in and we will assess it on arrival and make you a fair offer on the spot.

What You Need to Bring

Photo ID

All customers selling household scrap are required to present a valid photo ID showing your name and address, such as a driver’s licence. This is a legal requirement and applies to every transaction regardless of the size of your load. No ID means no purchase, so please make sure you have it with you before you make the trip.

Sorted Scrap Gets a Better Price

You do not need to sort your scrap before you bring it in but if you can separate different metals from each other, for example keeping copper separate from steel and aluminium separate from brass, you will generally get a better return. Not sure how to sort your load? Give us a call and we will walk you through it or come in and our team will help you on arrival.

A Few Things to Know Before You Come In

Fridges and Air Conditioners Must Be De-Gassed

If you are bringing in a fridge, freezer or air conditioning unit, it must be de-gassed by a licensed technician before we can accept it. This is not something we are able to do at drop off. Please arrange this before you make the trip. If you need guidance on how to organise de-gassing give us a call and we will point you in the right direction.

Not Sure If Your Item Qualifies?

If you have something a bit unusual or are not sure whether we can take it, please give us a call before you load up the car. We would rather save you an unnecessary trip than have you drive across Brisbane with something we cannot accept. Our team is friendly and happy to help you work out the best option for your situation.

Not Sure What You Have?

If you are not sure whether your household items contain recyclable metal or whether they are worth bringing in, our free recycling advice service is a great place to start. Give us a call, send us an email or drop in and we will help you work out what you have got and what the best option is for you.
